This won't be about country music so "twangers" will not get their fix by reading this. Not a fan. As Taylor from "Kid Nation" would say, "Deal with it." She was a pistol. Definitely not a good model for my kids, but she was only 11 or 12 so she has some growing to do. And boy do I understand 6th graders better now than I ever have after teaching them in my fifth year now. Anyways, I was going to talk about music. Have you noticed that the Christian music stations on the radio seem to get stronger and stronger each year. I used to listen to popular secular stations and now the only time I switch to a secular station is during the Christmas season. It's funny because it just hit me why Christian stations don't go totally Christmas during this season. Their stations are strictly about representing and worshiping God which is what Christmas is about. Don't get me wrong because I still love almost every Christmas song there is; however, I like the fact I can listen to a song and not worry about the lyrics or when on TV the gyrations of the artists who usually are not wearing much except a piece of string. I hate to say the quality of music has improved because Christians have always had great vocalists. What I would rather say is that it has begun to rival the popularity of secular artists. "Popularity!" you say, "That shouldn't matter!" Let's not kid ourselves. When kids start reaching the beginning of the age of independence, music and entertainment is one of their outlets. How can we guide them during this time? Being a Christian-school teacher I face this almost daily with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I dedicated a chapel to it. Thank the Lord there are clean alternatives to each type of music out there now. We can point them in the right direction but we can't make them take the narrow road. They might travel the wide, worn road first. Anyways, I might end here and pick up another time. Excuse me as I stumble off my soap box.
